Mozambique is a country of great potential and many contrasts. Located in Southern Aftrica, it has borders with six other countries and more than 2,500 km. of Indian Ocean coastline.
Seventy percent of the people live in rural areas and subsist by farming small plots of land. The income per capita is $370. U.S. and more than 58 percent of the children live below the poverty line.
The AIDS pandemic continues to compound the crisis of increasing numbers of orphaned and vulnerable children. As generations of parents die in Mozambique, they have left a social vacuum of 1.5 million orphans, approximately 16 percent of the population.
Challenges Facing Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
H4C Mozambique works to restore and transform the lives of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
H4C believes that the most effective and sustainable kind of help is self help. We believe they have the necessary skills within their community to creat self reliance, but that they simply lack the resources and opportunity. Therefore our role in Mozabique is to empower organizations and ministries to create sustainable self run enterprises, whose revenue will provide for the needs of the orphans under their care. In keeping with this philosophy, our partners set their own priorities and allocate resources towards projects that will lead to bettering the lives of the children, families and the communities they serve.
H4C is also committed to provice assistance to older children in the area of higher education, vocational training and valuable life skills that can lead to future employment and break the cycle of poverty in their families.
H4C also provides on time donations to organizations and ministries in Mozambique to enable to meet a specified need.
